No one was expecting the recruitment of a new director of policy at the UK Chamber of Shipping to be anything other than a run-of-the-mill appointment.
Peter Aylott was unveiled last week as the successor to veteran David Balston and will join the UK shipowners' association in August as its second in command, overseeing the development of policy on issues critical to its members' future.
