Danish giant AP Moller-Maersk is leading trials of a new sustainable ship fuel created from lignin and ethanol.
It is working with Wallenius Wilhelmsen, BMW, H&M, Levi Strauss and Marks & Spencer to explore the potential of the blend, known as LEO, under the name LEO Coalition.
The group has tasked Copenhagen University with exploring its environmental and commercial viability for shipping.
