Climate talks in London seem to have abandoned a popular levy proposal aimed at forcing shipping to decarbonise, instead forging ahead with a compromise of elements from a competing idea.
The two-day climate meeting came ahead of the International Maritime Organization’s Marine Environment Protection Committee next week, which is seen by many as the deadline for the UN body’s members to agree on regulations that will set shipping on its route to full decarbonisation by 2050.
