Higher crossing fees and a lower number of locks due to a water shortage have led to bidding wars and delays at Panama Canal, according to a US shipbroker.
Earlier this year, the Panama Canal Authority levied a $10,000 freshwater surcharge on vessels over 125 feet and a tow-based fee of 1% to 10%, depending on Gatun Lake's water level.
