Three officers from the unidentified vessel were tied up during the incident which occurred in the early hours of yesterday morning.
The attack, which was launched during a heavy rain storm, saw the bandits ransack several cabins on the ship and take cash and other valuable items.
One of the ship's crew received slight facial injuries during the drama, the IMB says.
