The incident took place at around 0550 local time about 5.8 nm west-northwest of the famous Raffles Lighthouse.
The Budget 19, which was towing the Budget 29, was boarded while underway. The robbers escaped with some scrap metal and mooring ropes.
There was no word if the robbers were armed or not, but all crew members aboard the tug were reported to be safe.
