The Ranger Wing is set to join the EU Navfor task force to coincide with the end of the monsoon season which has helped keep pirate activity to a minimum of late.
According to the Irish Independent the Ranger Wing will be deployed following a specific request from the cabinet.
The unit has been secretly training for the mission all year, working closely with the Navy and Air Corps, the newspaper says.
