The company said in a statement that the 47,000–dwt vessel (built 2006) was attacked at Lagos anchorage on Monday.
“The tanker was boarded by armed pirates and gun fire was exchanged at approximately 00.40 hrs local time,” it said.
“The security team (armed guards) on board immediately activated anti-piracy measures of resistance and the pirates escaped.”
Pyxis also said it was in deep shock after a gunshot wound proved fatal for one Filipino crewman during the raid.
