The incident took place at position 03:02N – 104:18E in the South China Sea.
The IMB Piracy Reporting Centre in Kuala Lumpur reports that about eight pirates armed with guns and knives boarded the tanker while it was underway.
The ship was ordered to reduce speed and all crew were mustered in the mess room where they were tied up.
The pirates then stole all crew and ship property and cash.
