Six masked men boarded the unidentified vessel andtook cash and personal items from the crew, the national newswire Bernama says.
The incident is the first this year reported in the Miriregion, local officials say.
"The masked pirates, using speed boats, werearmed with parang," a source told the newswire.
No injuries were reported to the crew of 13.
