While EU Navfor, Natoand CTF 151 welcome the 54% drop in global piracy in the first half of 2012,they stress shipowners must continue efforts which have cut the level ofattacks and hijackings this year.

“Itis of utmost importance that pressure on Somali pirates and their businessmodel is maintained and even increased as the strategic context, the situationin Somalia allowing for pirates to act, has not yet changed.”
