InterManager has called for a more proactive method to be developed in protecting ships in pirate-infested areas.
The shipmanagement trade body, which represents managers of some 4,400 ships with about 250,000 seafarers, is calling for the wider employment of armed guards.
Its new campaign has the support of 90% of its members and will call upon both flag states and charterers to review their rules, a statement claims.
