Indian Navy patrol boat, Sukanya (built 1989) foiled an attempt by Somali pirates to attack merchant ships in the Gulf of Aden.
The naval vessel was escorting five ships in the Internationally Recognised Transit Corridor (IRTC).
It intercepted three skiffs out of a group of five which were engaged in the attack. The other two fled.
The Indian navy arrested 26 Somali pirates and confiscated six AK47s with magazines and ammunition.
