The 1,066-teu Albedo (built 1993), which wasseized in the Indian Ocean in November 2010, went down while at anchorage closeto the coast, EU Navfor confirmed.
A search of the area is underway to try to find anysurvivors, the EU naval force said today in a statement.
The Albedo originally had a crew of 23 seafarers on boardthough Pakistan secured the release of seven nationals last August after payinga ransom.
