The warning from director Captain Pottengal Mukundan comes only hours after the bureau reported a sharpdecline in incidents during the third quarter.

Speaking at a conference in Londontoday, Mukundan said: “Vessels with private armed security are not reportingthe attempted attacks that other vessels were reporting before.

“There could be many reasons forthis, it could be that they fear liability or simply the owners themselves havegot clauses in their contracts which prevent any reporting of attemptedattacks.
