A suezmax controlled by Greek operator Dynacom Tankers Management has been seized by armed pirates in an attack that is believed to have unfolded off Somalia.
Details surrounding the hijacking of the 157,000-dwt Smyrni(built 2011) remain scarce but a source who handles security for the Athens-based company tells TradeWinds the ship has indeed been hijacked but declined to elaborate further.
The tanker’s last reported coordinates suggest it left Port Said in Egypt last week before sailing south through the Suez Canal toward the Horn of Africa, according to multiple vessel tracking databases.
