An arbitration ruling that found a Russian steel importer liable to contribute to costs arising from the pirate hijacking of a general cargoship has been upheld by a London high court.

The court has found that Vitorio Shipping is entitled to refuse delivery of part of a cargo of steel coils for which a general average guarantee was provided because there was no general average bond.

But high court judge, Justice Popplewell, ruled that the owner is not entitled to recover storage and other expenses incurred in respect of the cargo in question.
