However, the principals of the 6,300-dwt tanker ITRI (built 1991) say the hijackers made off with $5m worth of its cargo.

The Brila Energy-owned ship was seized on 16 January as it was preparing to unload 5,000t of jet fuel at the Ivory Coast port of Abidjan.

None of the 16 Nigerian crew members, who were locked up while the hijackers siphoned off the fuel, were injured in the attack.
