The attack involving the 6,500-dwt Ocean Energy (built 2011) is the fifth such incident in the region since the start of 2015.
The Singapore-flagged tanker was boarded at about 21:30 local time on 2 May by eight perpetrators armed with guns.
It was ordered to anchor off Malaysia’s Port Dickson in position 02° 19.3 .64’ N, 101° 40.4’ E where a barge came alongside.
