Peter Hinchliffe will retire as secretary general of the International Chamber of Shipping in May 2018.
Sources close to Hinchliffe say he has signaled his intention to step down after six years heading organisation which represents shipowner associations from around the world.
Hinchliffe has become a respected figure at the International Maritime Organisation. He has helped influence key policy issues such as the control of greenhouse gas emissions where he has encouraged the regulator to take a proactive stance.
