The UK’s RMT union said it has ‘moved into dispute’ with Scottish ferry owner CalMac after pay talks broke down.

It said two days of extensive negotiations had ended without an acceptable offer from the shipowner.

“RMT’s executive will now decide on the next steps,” it added.

The union claimed its successful £900m (then $1.3bn) bid for state-subsidised Scottish routes this year was based on the consumer price index (CPI), on which pay offers will now be based, instead of the retail price index (RPI).
