Norway's Norled has ordered two pioneering new ferries the week after its sale was agreed by owner DSD.

Domestic shipbuilder Westcon said it had been commissioned to construct the world's first car ferry to run on hydrogen, plus another ship that will use batteries.

The vessels will carry 299 passengers and 80 cars.

They will sail between Hjelmeland, Skipavik and Nesvik in Ryfylke from spring 2021.
