The Norwegian oil company has held the Blue Thunder (built 2013) since delivery in April and has stretched the charter for a further six months from the end of January.
Statoil has the option to keep the vessel for another six months, exercisable in three-month blocks.
It has also signed a long-term deal for sistership Blue Guardian (built 2013) which it has been operating in the North Sea spot market.
