Transocean has secured a new charter contract for an ultra-deepwater semi-submersible drilling rig which has been idle since late 2015.
Suncor Energy is taking the Transocean Barents (built 2009) for 15 months at a dayrate of $260,000, generating an estimated contract backlog, excluding mobilization, of $119m.
The semi-sub has been idle since September 2015 after coming off a one-year contract with Shell in the North Sea at $547,000.
