Norway’s economic and environmental crime prosecution agency has fined marine surveyor Aqualis Offshore for allegedly aiding an attempt to illegally export a vessel for demolition.
Okokrim has imposed a fine of NOK 1.6m ($173,000) for the technical survey, which was conducted in 2017 on the 40,796-dwt barge carrier Harrier (ex-Tide Carrier, built 1989) in Kvinnherad, Norway.
The Norwegian agency claims the surveyor breached Norway's pollution control act, which incorporates a European Union directive concerning the transportation of waste for recycling across national borders.
