The National Union of Seafarers of India (NUSI) is warning that the country is facing a lack of crew to work on oil exploration vessels.
It has asked the Indian ministry of shipping for financial help towards training.
General secretary Abdulgani Serang said: "I am extremely happy that finance minister Arun Jaitley in his budget speech stated to incentivise oil exploration activities across India's vast coastline."
