At least 227 semi-submersible and jack-up rigs have little hope of ever returning to service. However, scrapping them is setting the industry a tough challenge.
Reuben Segal, chief operating officer of Aqualis Offshore, told last week's TradeWinds Ship Recycling Forum in Hong Kong that these units and another 38 laid-up drillships represent a good source of scrap steel for the next five to six years.
