DryShips chief George Economou is spreading his talents a little thinner by taking on the chief executive role at Ocean Rig.

Economou has taken on the job of interim chief executive of the Norwegian rig owning company following the resignation of David Mullen.

George Economou
Mullen (52) an Irish educated geologist is quitting Ocean Rig to head Wellstream, a London quoted flowline and riser specialist.

Mullen has an oil and gas industry background with his career including stints at Transocean and Schlumberger and is a non-executive director of Siem Industries.

DryShips said it has begun a search for a permanent replacement for Mullen.
