A long running legal battle over a ship fire that caused a death and seriously damaged a Farstad offshore supply vessel has been finally resolved.
The Norwegian shipping company has agreed to accept about 70% of the compensation originally claimed from Enviroco, a company employed to clean the oil tanks of the 4,680-dwt Far Service (built 1995).
The deal agreed on the “eve of proof diet” on the steps of the outer house of Edinburgh’s Court of Session relates to a fire on the vessel at Peterhead harbour in July 2002.
The case has earlier been fought to the UK’s Supreme Court in London but the core dispute was to be resolved under Scottish rather than English law.
