State-owned Dredging Corporation of India (DCI) is planning to order a new vessel to boost efficiency in Haldia.
The dredger would cost DCI around INR 5.15bn ($79.2m), the Financial Express reported.
It would save on time and operational cost.
DCI dredgers currently pick up silt from the river bed and carry it to Nayachar island to dispose of it, which takes about two hours.
