CNNC tenders for first nuclear icebreaker

A unit of China National Nuclear Corp (CNNC) is inviting tenders to build the country’s first nuclear-powered icebreaker.

CNNC Marine Nuclear Power Development is using its parent's centralised procurement platform to seek domestic bidders for the ship, CNNC said, according to Yicai Global.

China has been researching nuclear-powered platforms for almost 50 years, the report said.

CNNC Marine Nuclear Power Development was set up last year, with Jiangnan Shipyard a shareholder.
