Hybrid propulsion and connected communications systems are gaining ground faster than expected when its wrote its Shipping 2020 report back in 2012, the classification society says.
“Operational efficiency and emissions reductions are the main motivators behind these developments,” said DNV GL chief executive, maritime Tor Svensen at a briefing before Nor-Shipping about the hybrid fuel solutions.
But he added that LNG has not become the major fuel as predicted at the time the report was written.
