Taiwanese owner Evergreen Marine has confirmed it will order 20 neo-panamax boxships worth up to $2.6bn.
The company told the Taipei stock exchange that the board has decided to contract the 15,000-teu vessels for a price between $115m and $130m each. This puts the total price at between $2.3bn and $2.6bn.
The company said it will choose between Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding and Jiangnan Shipyard in China, Imabari Shipbuilding in Japan, and Samsung Heavy Industries and Hyundai Heavy Industries in South Korea.
