The container shipping industry has a chance to break its boom-bust cycle of the past 30 years, according to a study by AlixPartners.
But there are already signs that discipline may be fraying as a number of carriers place large orders for newbuildings, the New York-based consulting firm warned.
Its “2021 Global Container Shipping Outlook” notes that further additions to fleet capacity could severely dilute any pricing power that carriers have been able to establish.
