Oshima Shipbuilding is set to conclude talks to purchase Koyagi shipyard from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) within this month, according to local media reports.
The two parties had hoped to announce a deal for the Nagasaki facility in March 2020 but the talks were disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic.
As a result of the deal, Oshima — one of the world’s leading bulker shipbuilders — will be able to significantly increase production and could be set to embark on a marketing campaign to fill the new dock space.
