Australia’s Port of Newcastle has seen its first export of a wheat cargo in nearly two years following the recent departure of a Pacific Basin handysize bulker.
The 37,500-dwt Ince Point (built 2015) sailed for Vietnam after loading 35,000 tonnes of wheat in what is the first shipment of that type of cargo since 2018.
The lack of wheat export cargos from the New South Wales (NSW) port follows a prolonged period of drought across the Port of Newcastle catchment area.
