Seventeen major charterers have committed publicly to cut the pollution that is causing climate change. And that is a big thing. They have agreed a standardised framework for measuring the greenhouse gas emissions of all the ships they charter, along with the ballast legs, whether they are on time charter or just for a voyage. The carbon intensity will be calculated against the International Maritime Organization's target to steadily reduce emissions over the next 30 years.
