Bangladesh has warned its beaching yards not to accept a floating storage and offloading vessel (FSO) that has been branded as “toxic” by a shipbreaking environmental pressure group.
The 60,500-dwt J Nat (built 1983), formerly known as Jesslyn Natuna before it was sold for scrap and changed its name, is reportedly heading for the Chattogram from Indonesia for demolition.
Bangladesh government officials have said the national navy has been instructed to prevent the ship from entering its territorial waters, while the Bangladesh Ship Breakers and Recyclers Association members have been instructed not to demolish the vessel.
