Do not expect railcars to challenge tankers for oil storage supremacy any time soon.
With depressed oil prices filling storage to the brim and threatening to send US futures contracts negative for the second consecutive month, so-called "rolling storage" has been pitched as an alternative to tankers.
But the US freight rail industry told TradeWinds this week that, despite the headlines, storing oil on railcars is too expensive and impractical.
