Russia’s FSUE Atomflot has signed a contract with Rosneft’s Zvezda Shipbuilding to build a nuclear icebreaker for use on the Northern Sea Route.
Atomflot’s parent company Rosatom said the newbuilding was inked remotely in Murmansk and Vladivostok.
The 209-metre long, 69,700-tonne vessel will be fitted with two RITM-400 nuclear reactors developed by Rosatom giving the vessel a capacity of 120 MW which will enable it to break ice of more than four metres thickness.
