Shipowners are racing against the clock to put up to 20,000 ships through an inventory of hazardous materials (IHM) inspection before the end of the year, or face the prospect of serving time in prison.
By 31 December, an IHM certificate will be mandatory for European Union-flag ships and vessels calling at EU ports under the Ship Recycling Regulation (SRR).
