Greece’s Public Ports Authority (PPA) must have heaved a sigh of relief on Tuesday evening when the first of several laid-up NEL Lines ferries it has been trying to get rid of for years finally departed for a shipbreaking yard in Aliaga at the end of a towrope.
The 19,500-gt ropax Ionian Sky (built 1974) is being towed to Turkey’s shipbreaking centre after being sold for recycling by Comber Shipholding, a Marshall Islands-registered company that acquired it at auction in late 2019.
