A short-lived spike in scrapping prices last month has failed to significantly boost dismal tanker demolition levels so far in 2019, as rates boomed.

Figures from vessel recycling broker Ed McIlvaney show 114 oil vessels of 5.48m dwt were offloaded to the end of October.

This is down from 246 in the same period of 2018, a drop of 55% year-on-year.
