The bulker leaking fuel on to a Solomon Islands reef previously ran aground in Australia's Great Barrier Reef under another name.
Shipping databases show the 74,000-dwt Solomon Trader (built 1994), now owned by King Trader, is the former Doric Chariot, which got stuck on Piper Reef hauling coal from Mackay to India in 2002.
The ship has since changed names and owners at least four and three times respectively since then, Equasis data shows.
