Iran has said it is closing in on a deal to export crude to Europe despite the return of US sanctions in November.
Foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif told reporters in New York: "This is for us to sell our oil and get the proceeds."
EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini was quoted as saying that the EU was working on an oil-for-goods bartering mechanism with Iran.
