Tsakos Group is looking to double its fleet of containerships with an order for up to 12 newbuildings from a South Korean shipyard.
The Greek shipowner, which has a diversified fleet, is said to be in the “advanced stage of discussions” with Hyundai Mipo Dockyard for up to a dozen 2,800-teu boxships.
Shipbuilding sources said Tsakos is not ordering the feeder containerships on speculation but is working on long-term charters with South Korea’s Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM).
