In TradeWinds last month, I mentioned how the strong US dollar was putting pressure on some emerging market economies. Since then, Turkey’s economic woes have hit everyone’s screens. The decline in the Turkish lira in 2018 is nothing short of spectacular and one wonders whether this is a sign of more bad news to come for emerging market economies and the world economic cycle.
