A Singapore-based shipowner has been fined SGD 80,000 ($58,742) for trying to bribe an official in the tiny Pacific island state of Nauru.
Getax Ocean Trades is said to have transferred $19,918 to Ryke Solomon in exchange for advancing its business interests in the country.
This constituted an offence punishable under Section 6(b) of the Prevention of Corruption Act (Cap 241), according to Singapore’s Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB).
