A drop in demand partly due to liner operators cutting some services has led to a fall in charter rates.
Larger containerships are among the hardest hit with the 8,819-teu Conti Makalu (built 2004) reportedly taken for 77 to 155 days by French liner operator CMA CGM for its Asia-to-US Gulf service at $16,900 per day
The rate is down from around $20,000 per day, which similar ships could obtain a few weeks ago.
