Evergreen Marine is jumping on the feeder containership newbuilding bandwagon by seeking up to two dozen ships that could be worth $740m.
Shipbuilding sources said the Taiwanese liner operator is targeting two sizes of vessels: 2,400-teu ships and 1,800-teu Bangkokmaxes. It wants between four and 12 units of each type.
“The minimum number of vessels that Evergreen wants will be eight units if it is based on four vessels of each size, while the maximum number of newbuildings will reach 24 if it goes for a dozen vessels each,” one shipbuilding source said.
